What happens in a consultation?

You will be asked all about your presenting complaint(s) and your general health and wellbeing. A full medical history will be taken along with an assessment of diet, lifestyle and any medicine or supplements you take. Where necessary, you may receive a physical examination, ensuring your comfort and modesty are preserved at all times.

A herbal remedy will be dispensed for you to take away. Tinctures (concentrated alcohol based herb extracts), teas (dried herbs) and supplements are mostly used. You may also be prescribed a cream or herbal oil. You will be given nutritional or lifestyle advice to help your complaint(s).

After 2 to 3 weeks you will need to return for a follow up consultation, to assess progress being made and ensure that the right treatment is being given. More medicine will usually be dispensed.

Treatment will continue for as long as you feel it is necessary with follow ups taking place intermittently as required. This may be every 5 weeks to begin with, tailing off to every 3 to 6 months afterwards. If any changes need to be made to the treatment, for example if your existing condition improves but something else develops, or if you feel the treatment is not working as well as it was in the beginning and the herbs need changing, you will require a consultation before any changes can be made. Each course of treatment is different. Some conditions may take longer to respond. Sometimes you may be refered to your doctor.
